When you do purchase your domain, make note of the day you purchased it so you can set a reminder to renew it the next year.

Setting up Your Website

Now comes the fun part! Let’s get your website set up. If you don’t feel confident in setting everything up design wise for your website, reach out to a business that specializes in this step.

If you want to give it a try on your own, here are a few things you need to do.
Select a theme for your website. This will be the bases of the design for your site. You can customize it based on your brand colors, font, logo, and other asthetics.

Create the pages for your website. Typically you at least want a home, about, blog, and contact me page. If you are a business that offers products or services, you would also include a page for that.

Add content to each page and customize it so that your user can easily navigate it.

Make sure you optimize your site by including keywords so that people can find your website and so that it gets picked up by search engines like Google.

When first starting your blog, your website doesn’t have to be too complicated. You can always go back and adjust your website as time goes on.

Creating a blog menu

Creating a Blog Menu

Now that you have your website ready, let’s focus on how to create a blog menu. A blog menu is the navigation portion of your site where people are able to click on the different pages of your site.  Less is really more when it comes to your menu, because you want it to be easy to use.

No one wants to click on a site and be bombarded by information, hundreds of sign up forms, and a bunch of widgets. Instead, people want to come to a calm, clean site where they know exactly where or how to get started.

As I mentioned earlier in this blog post, you want to make sure you have an about me, home, blog, and contact me page. If you are a business that offers products or services, you would also include a page for that.
